The  Construction of the Sh.350 million Wote Stadium that stalled three years ago has resumed and will be complete by October, Sports Cabinet Secretary (CS), Amb. Amina Mohammed.

Amb. Mohammed said that the construction had stalled due to lack of funds but disclosed that money had been availed to complete the project.

The  CS  made the announcement on Monday at the Stadium when she inspected the progress of the works that commenced three weeks ago. She  was  accompanied by her Principal Secretary, Joe Okudo and Sports Kenya Chairman, Fred Muteti.

“We have been instructed by President Uhuru Kenyatta to ensure 10 stadiums are completed by December. The President will commission this stadium in October,” said Amb. Mohammed while briefing the media in  Wote.

She disclosed that a committee comprising of officers from the county and national governments had been formed to monitor the progress made and ensure that works meet international standards.

Amb. Mohammed said the stadium will include a pavilion, a perimeter wall, a track field and administration block.

Further  the CS said that the stadium will give the young people an opportunity to hone their talents and compete at both local and international levels

“Talent especially from the track field not only brings fame to the country, but also revenue,” she said.

Amb. Mohammed said that the stadium will have a capacity of between 15,000 to 20,000 people.

Governor Kivutha Kibwana lauded the government for the initiative to have the stadium completed and expressed his optimism that the stadium will improve talent among youth in the area.

Kibwana also asked the government to fast-track the 203 house units that stalled 30 years ago to ease housing for civil servants in the area.

Also  present  was the Makueni County Commissioner, Maalim Mohammed, Executive Committee Member (ECM) for Roads and Infrastructure, Dr. Naomi Makau among others.
