The wife of actor Charles Bukeko, popularly known as Papa Shirandula, has accused the Karen Hospital of negligence.

Beatrice Andega, while speaking at her husband’s funeral on Monday morning, said the facility’s alleged negligence may have led to his death.

She told mourners that hospital staff dragged their feet in attending to her husband when she took him for treatment on Saturday, the fateful day.

“They didn’t consider his condition an emergency and he died while we were at the waiting bay,” she said.

“When he went to hospital, he requested for three tests of malaria, pneumonia and Covid-19 but the hospital concentrated only on Covid and ignored the rest,” Ms Andega added.

“He died in the seat of the car while sitting next to me. They did not even admit him. We went to Karen Hospital and the admission process was complicated. I asked them to put him on support because it was an emergency but it was not done,” the actor’s wife lamented.

With grief written all over her face, Ebbie added that doctors ignored two other key tests (malaria and pneumonia) that would have probably helped to save her husband’s life.

The mother of Papa’s children believed the cold weather is not conducive for people’s lungs and her husband was probably suffering from another disease too.

“COVID-19 is manageable. Papa was supposed to undergo three tests: coronavirus, pneumonia and malaria. When I asked the doctors whether they did all three, they said no. I asked them why they only focused on COVID-19 while he could also be suffering from something else,” the widow cried out.

Papa better known as Charles Bukeko passed away on July 18, 2020. His brother-in-law Rowland Wanyama said the actor fell ill after returning home from a trip to Kakamega County.

He had tested positive for coronavirus and agreed with doctors to return home and isolate from there. However, a week after, Papa developed breathing complications and was rushed to Karen Hospital by his wife Ebbie.
